Site upgrades!

Just a side note to mention the new look for epminis.com.  I cleaned up the theme and made some back end changes to make it easier for me to archive some older info without losing it. This is mostly just backend stuff, but in case you thought you hit the wrong page, I just wanted to let everyone know about the refresh.

MINI Milestones

The Odometer rolled passed 250k this past weekend on Don Burnside's 2002 MINI

While we were hitting the Twisties in the Gila, there was AMVIV happening in Vegas.  (Maybe next year? any takers?)

While attending AMVIV, Don Burnside (of the “World Famous” White Roof Radio Podcast) reached a HUGE milestone on his 2002 MINI.  He proudly surpassed 250,000 miles on the odometer!  Those are some serious miles! And probably a lot of attention to maintenance intervals, fluid levels, etc. etc.  This got me thinking that we should have a MINI clinic to make sure our MINI’s can stay on the road for many years to come.  What does everyone think?  Would you be interested in learning more about what goes on underneath the bonnet of your awesome little car? Jesus Govea over at BMW MINI Cooper Specialists is interested in hosting a clinic for us and would love to meet all his new Facebook friends in person.  I’d like some feedback from everyone to see if we can get enough cars together for this Clinic.  Let me know in the comments, on the poll or on Facebook!

Are you Ready to Rally?

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for coming out to Kinely’s last night for a pre-rally meet and discussions.  Everyone is really excited for the ride! Looks like we are going to have a good group of cars heading up to the Gila on Sunday!

Preparations:

  • Be sure you’ve got picnic supplies, light jackets, and food and beverage provisions.  Weather could be a little cooler than normal with the front that has settle in and the winds we’ve been seeing. There are a couple of fast food restaurants at one of the stops, but we can’t count on them to keep up with our schedule.
  • Fuel up and tire check prior to departure on Sunday morning!
  • Ken will be handing out printed agendas and Maps if you forget to print yours!
  • A few of us will have CBs and Walkie talkies as cell phone reception is non existent in many of the areas we’ll be traveling in.  You are welcome to bring a radio of some sort if you have one.  We’ll be on Channel 37 on the CB’s

Rally Points:

MINI of El Paso is the Main Start point of the Rally.  We will leave PROMPTLY at 9:30 am on Sunday morning.  If you plan on meeting us at any of the other rally points, please let us know!  You can email epMINIs@gmail.com or Ken Kenyon at Kenktx@aol.com with your planned meet point and/or cell phone number so that we can call you when we are on our way to your rally point.  For a list of rally points and a map,  please click HERE for Details and HERE for MAP

Suggested meet points for Westside El Paso is Anthony Gap 404 at I-10.  Please let us know if you choose to meet us at one of the other rally points!

The Drive

Some of us like to cruise, some of us like to “move” our cars.  We are all meeting at the same places and will most likely end up in “MINI” Packs of cars to reach the points. Fast cars will wait at the Rally points for the rest of the groups to catch up again.  Those with radios can call up the “Movers” to check in on their progress.  We want everyone to enjoy their trip! With good communication and following the pre-determined routes, everyone should be able to enjoy the drive at their own pace without the feeling of being left behind or getting lost.

Returning Home

There are several different routes planned for the day.  You can choose to do as many or as few as you would like.  If you choose to head home early at any one of the stop points, let us know so we can take a count of whose left and make sure we don’t leave anybody behind. We have several confirmations of people heading back at the halfway point.  Talk to other drivers and see what everyone’s plans are.  You can probably find a mini “MINI” pack to head home with.

Have Fun!

We have MINI’s because we don’t just “drive from point a to point b” Our cars don’t “Just get us to work and groceries”  We drive MINI’s for the fun and for the joy of driving!  Our little MINI community is growing and we haven’t reached everyone yet. Take pictures, Facebook them, tag them!  Let everyone know what we are all about.  Let’s keep our group going and growing!  We are looking forward to more event’s like these in the future. With everyone’s help, we can spread the word and make this happen!  Share this page with other MINI drivers we’ll see you all on Sunday!

Just a Few More Days!

3 points

Sunday May 22nd is the right around the corner!  Are you rallying? Here’s a few things you’ll want to do to get ready:

  • Are you fueled up?  We’re going to cover some miles on Sunday, be sure you’re filled up and ready to go!
  • How’s the air in your tires?  When was the last time you even checked?  Good air pressure makes for a fun, “efficient” ride!
  • Got Snacks?  Just like your MINI, you’ll need some fuel to keep you going.  Pack a sack lunch and some beverages.  There aren’t a lot of eats out in the Gila!
We’ll be sure to provide maps of the routes and stops on the rally route for everyones reference.  Be sure to review all the details ahead of time!
