Earlier this month I wrote “2012 is shaping up to be a very busy MINI Motoring year!” After listening to some of our Extreme Enthusiasts and researching various events online, those first words I posted this year are somewhat of an understatement! What follows is a brief sketch of what to expect over the next couple of months.

Weekly Meets in Las Cruces

There’s a MINI group in Las Cruces that has started getting together for dinner once a week.  If anyone is interested, please shoot me an email: epminis at gmail dot com and I can get you in touch with Johnny. He’s been coordinating the dinners and would like to meet more of you all out there!

February

For our Sunday Rallies, I want to try to stick to the 3rd Sunday of the month as our Meet day.  Most of we have in mind for our 3rd Sundays will be cruises and tours.  So if you need to schedule time off from work or are just wondering when the next rally will be, it’s a pretty safe bet if it’s the 3rd Sunday of the Month, it’s a rally Sunday.  For February the 3rd Sunday is the 19th.  A route has been scouted and details are being sorted out.  More posts as the date nears.

MINI of El Paso has a couple of other events scheduled in February as well. According to the schedule they posted on their Facebook page, they will be at the “Don” for the UTEP vs Tulsa game on the 8th.  They will also be hosting and Art and Trunk Show.  Keep an eye on the MINI of El Paso Facebook page for more details.  EP MINIs will share any info we have as well.

March

3rd Sunday Drive TBD

On Thursday March 22nd we should see the launch of the all-new MINI Coupe Roadster (the convertible) here at our local MINI dealership. The launch will also coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the launch of the new MINI.  MINI of El Paso will be hosting a launch/anniversary party for the event and it will be your first chance to get behind the wheel of MINI’s newest model.

April

3rd Sunday Drive TBD

Saturday April 21st everyone is invited to attend a special Beatles tribute concert at the Chamizal Indoor Theater at 7pm. Tickets for the show are 20 dollars and all proceeds will be used to purchase and provide free wigs for cancer treatment patients. Please support the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation in this charity event. We’ll share more info as it becomes available.

The Following weekend (April 28th and 29th) the British Motor Car Club of Southern New Mexico will be hosting their annual British Car show in Old Mesilla.  There is always an interesting mix of classic cars and of course, classic Minis there.

MINI Takes the States!!!!!!

No official dates or routes have been announced, but it looks like July 4th could be the start date.  The guys on White Roof Radio have the impression that the Rally will launch from a major east coast city and end at a southern West Coast city.  With El Paso being right in the middle, this will give us an easy opportunity to catch the last legs of the rally to the finish.  Who’s up for a Road Trip!

White Sands, the day after

Judging from the FB posts and comments, it looks like everyone had a fantastic time.  We were so fortunate to have great weather and an awesome group of MINIs and the owners that love them!  If you spent the day watching football, you missed an AWESOME rally!

I’ve got a couple of hundred pictures to sort and process through and will share the good ones as soon as possible.  Photographing in Bright Sun on White Sand was a real challenge but we got some good shots nonetheless.  Be sure to share all of your pics and tag EP MINIS for everyone to see!

Coming later this week, I should have a new Vendor and discount code to share with everyone.  I’ll update the site with the new vendor as soon as they finish up their banner artwork.

It was great seeing everyone again and meeting some new MINI fans is always a bonus!  Now, have to go back to vacuuming…….EVERYTHING!

The weather for Sunday is looking good with a high near 60 and a good cloud sun mix.  We expect it to be a GREAT day for a drive!

This MINI Rally is open to all MINI and Classic Mini Owners!

Meet:

El Paso folks meet at Starbucks on Redd Road in the Kohl’s Parking lot starting at 830 am

Depart for Las Cruces at 9:30 am

Meet up with Las Cruces folks around 10 am Location to Be Determined

Depart Las Cruces Taking Highway 70 to White Sands National Monument

Bring:

Full tank of Gas

Cash for entry into the park. $3 per person. (Kids 15 and under are Free) No credit/debit cards can be taken at the entrance station.

Sunglasses, Hats, Sunscreen, Sledding equipment etc.

Plastic Sleds available to purchase in The Gift Shop

Pack Lunch if you plan on staying for an extended amount of time.  Expensive Gift Shop sandwiches are the only eating choices close by.

Weather:
The forecast is showing clear sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50’s.  Layered clothing and comfortable shoes is probably your best bet.

2012 is shaping up to be a very busy MINI Motoring year! MINI USA recently confirmed that they will be organizing another MINI Takes The States slated for sometime in the Summer.  AMVIV (A MINI Vacation in VEGAS) is scheduled for June 14th through the 17th.  The Dynamic MINI Collective from Arizona may have something planned for the fall and the annual MINIs in the Mountains takes place in Colorado August 2nd through the 5th.  We will definitely be attending at least one of those events this year and we would like to have some more of you MINI motorers experience one of these HUGE MINI gatherings for yourselves! Once MINI USA finalizes the dates (they promised more details coming this month) we’ll post more schedules and start figuring out what we are going to do. It’s the start of the year and still plenty of time for you to request time off  If you have another event you are attending and want to have some more folks caravan with you, post in the comments.

In the meantime, Sunday January 15th looks like a good day for a local meet-up and drive.  We’ve had a lot of requests for a day trip to White Sands over the last few months and this seems like a good time to head on up.  Weather around this time of year is usually mild and clear. Temps average in the upper 50’s to low 60’s making for a very comfortable day out in the sands! As always, the drive is open to all MINI and Classic Mini owners.

We’ll work on putting together routes and schedules over the next couple of weeks and will post some more details as we get closer to the 15th!
